About Us:
Founded in 2001, the New York Abortion Access Fund supports New Yorkers, and people traveling to New York State, in accessing abortion care through financial assistance, case management, and connections to other resources.
NYAAF operates a volunteer-managed helpline (212-252-4757) which fields calls in English and Spanish. Our volunteer case managers provide compassionate support to people facing barriers, misinformation, and stigma, and move funds to ensure abortion seekers can access the care they need and deserve.
Following the Supreme Court ruling to overturn Roe v. Wade, more people than ever are traveling to New York to access the abortion care they need. And, while New York is much more “abortion-friendly” than other states, many barriers still exist here. These especially impact young people, Black folks, Indigenous peoples, other People of Color, immigrants, LGBTQ+ folks, disabled people, the working class, and people at the intersection of these (and other) marginalized identities and experiences. NYAAF directly fills the gaps created by these barriers, and has made abortion access a reality for thousands of callers in New York and across the country.
In the three years following the Dobbs decision, we have pledged over $5.6 million and supported 8,561 abortion seekers from 40 states (including NY), Puerto Rico, Washington D.C., the U.S. Virgin Islands, as well as 25 countries. In 2024 alone, we moved more than 2 million dollars to directly pay for abortions—the highest annual amount in our history–and supported 2,700 callers from across the country and beyond.
As New York’s only abortion fund, we believe no one should be denied access to an abortion because of where they live or how much money they make.
Funding abortion is a radical act of community care.
Our Mission
NYAAF works to make abortion accessible for anyone living in or traveling to New York through direct funding, holistic support, and trusted connections.
We foster systems of community care and build collective power to dismantle barriers, shift systems, and advance reproductive justice.
Our Vision
We envision a world rooted in joy, dignity, and self-determination, where all people have the power to make decisions about their bodies and futures.
In this world, communities have what they need to thrive, and abortion is accessible, trusted, and celebrated as a fundamental part of bodily autonomy, healthcare and human rights.
Grounded in the principles of reproductive justice, we recognize that true liberation requires abolishing harmful systems of exploitation and oppression that criminalize care, deny resources, and perpetuate inequity. These systems include patriarchy, capitalism, white supremacy and anti-Blackness, imperialism, ableism, and more.
At NYAAF, we work with humility, solidarity, and care, centering those most impacted by reproductive injustices as we build toward a future of collective liberation.
Our Values
Collective liberation is both our long-term vision and our everyday practice.
We strive to embody the values outlined here, grounding ourselves in who we are, shaping how we show up with others, and guiding every aspect of our strategy.
-
We are unapologetically sex-positive and affirm that authentic self expression and bodily and sexual pleasure are acts of liberatory resistance. We reject shame and stigma around sex, abortion, and all reproductive outcomes, and create joyful spaces where full bodily autonomy is celebrated without judgment.
-
We honor the expertise of those who have had abortions, faced barriers to abortion care, and come from communities that have experienced—and continue to experience—reproductive oppression. We recognize that those most impacted by these systems of oppression should lead the way toward their dismantling.
-
We center our shared humanity in everything we do—from our direct caller services, to how we work together, to movement partnerships, and beyond—and trust people as experts in their own lives and needs.
-
We are committed to being nimble and creatively responding to frequent landscape changes. We nurture our collective resilience in service of our community, continuously fostering abundance while preparing for scarcity.
-
We ground all of our decisions in our values. We take responsibility for our individual and collective impact, and embrace generative conflict as a pathway to deeper understanding, healing, and connection.
